PROMESS is the Essential Medicines Program of the Republic of Haiti, established in 1992 during the embargo period in response to the failure of the previous supply system for community pharmacies (AGAPCO).
This program was founded with financial contributions from various partners, including the World Bank, as well as bilateral cooperations (France, Switzerland, Netherlands, USAID, Canada) and multilateral organizations (UNICEF, UNFPA, European Commission), which came together within a Management Committee. This committee is currently chaired by the Minister of Public Health and Population.
Since its inception, PROMESS has been a partnership administered by PAHO/WHO in Haiti. Its primary objective is to ensure the availability and accessibility of essential medicines and quality medical devices for public and non-profit private health institutions in the country.
