General description
In order to meet the growing energy demand in Côte d'Ivoire and position the country as the energy hub of West Africa, the Ivorian government entrusted, in 1998, the development of the Azito Thermal Power Plant to a consortium consisting of IPS-WA, ABB, and Electricité de France (EDF). Today, Azito Énergie combines the expertise of global leaders in electricity with the capabilities of a solid development institution. Since its commissioning in 2000, the Azito thermal power plant, located on a 5-hectare site in the village of Azito (Yopougon commune), approximately six kilometers west of the port of Abidjan, has been a success on all fronts. It reliably delivers low-cost electricity with high availability, while efficiently utilizing Côte d'Ivoire’s natural gas resources.
